On the subject of leap days.

Today in my physics class these two kids were talking about the amazement of being born on a leap day:

Kid 1: That's so weird how you only have a birthday every four years. I mean, you'd technically be 20 years old, but you'd only look like a 5-year-old.
Kid 2: That would suck for them. Aging slower and all...I wouldn't want my life to be like that. Would you want that?
Kid 1: Nah, but I mean think about it. If you live to be 100 years old, you're really 500, and that's a pretty long time.

For some ridiculous reason, to which, however, I’ve no desire to be disloyal,
Some person in authority, I don’t know who, very likely the Astronomer Royal,
Has decided that, although for such a beastly month as February,twenty-eight days as a rule are plenty,
One year in every four his days shall be reckoned as nine and twenty.

I just got back from Pirates of Penzance. Ahhhh the fun of Leap Days!

I remember when my grandpa (born February 29th) had his "19th" birthday. My parents made a big to-do about him finally reaching the legal drinking age... (we're Canadian). I knew about leap years early on, because of Grandpa. But I'm quite certain I was also taught about them VERY early in elementary school... I assumed it was common knowledge.

I think the best part is "If you live to be 100 years old, you're really 500"

Because somewhere in there you can shave off another 100 years.

Oh wow, how had I not even caught that aspect of the stupid? I was busy laughing at the fact that no, you don't age slower, so you don't get to live to your 100th birthday and have 4x the lifespan that I completely missed the inability to multiply 100 by 4!

My brother's friend is having his third birthday on Friday. He definitely looks twelve, not three. Do these kids really think you magically go through a whole year's worth of growth on your birthday?

God, that would be so painful.

My brain hurts.
The stupid. I hope it isnt contagious!

Soooo... if I was born on a leap year I could live to be 500? Dang, I feel like I'm missing out. ;P

No Piers Anthony fans here? Damn.

In his "Dragon's Gold" series (that I really should read again, it's been a while) there were twin kings who were born on leap day, and enchanted so that this aging was really the case. They were in their 20s mentally, but appeared to be small children, and would live to rule their kingdom for many centuries.

That sounds like a really cool concept.
