Somebody's just a little mixed up about that whole "9 months" thing
21st-Nov-2006 04:47 pm
From a woman in my December, 2006 due date club (an online forum for the mothers of babies due to be born next month):

hello i was just wondering if anyone knows the answer to this question. ok now that the 20th has came and gone and everyone thought i was going to give birth on the 20th even i did. but that did not happen. but my question is i know the days that i had sex when i could of got pregnant so does that mean that i will have the baby on the days that i could of have sex or not. see i was living out of town so i could not see my babys father everyday i could only see him monday through wensday and thats it. so does it mean that i will have this baby sometime between monday and wensday? sorry if this question sound so stupid but i was just wondering.

I hope the kid's father is smarter, but somehow I doubt it.

Poor little Wednesday, having some of its letters ripped out...

I think it would be lovely if she had the child on a Friday or something, and thought to herself, "OH NO! Boyfriend CAN'T be the father! Ahhh!!"

:) But that's just cruel, and no one could be that dumb... *re-reads post* Nevermind. ;P

Oh, that would be HILARIOUS. XDDD

well, at least she apologizes for being stupid. that's a good thing, right? XD
22nd-Nov-2006 06:40 pm (UTC)
I don't know. She apologized afterward, fully knowing how stupid she could sound, and asked anyway. AND (Oh! Oh! Oh! Don't forget) she didn't even use a spell check.

Your icon is correct. Horrifying. Let's just hope the child is not homeskooled.

Oh boy, I feel sorry for that baby. :/

Seconded...

and this, ladies and gentlemen, is why people with an IQ less than their dress size should not breed. Ever.

Actually, I remember when I was researching the Salem Witch Trials, there was an interesting point brought up. The Puritan colonists DID, in fact, believe that a child 'born on the Sabbath' was a child 'conceived on the Sabbath'. The book clearly stated that it was an 'erroneous' belief, but evidently, at the time, it was fairly widespread.

(And a mere two centuries earlier, the vast majority of Europe believed that the Earth was flat...)

Common misconception. Europe has known the Earth was round for a very long time. Don't know when exactly, but I remember learning this because of Dante's Inferno, which was written in the early 1300's and featured a round earth...

lol @ "could of"
this is why I am a fan of sterilization of the mentally unfit
22nd-Nov-2006 06:19 pm (UTC)
Couldn't agree with you more.
22nd-Nov-2006 06:17 pm (UTC)
I don't understand "could of". Yes, it might sound the same (given a "lazy speaker") but people DO attend school at some point and surely cannot avoid grammar (or any written text, really) so completely? WHY is this so common a misconception with native speakers? Someone PLEASE enlighten me?

I wish I knew. It drives me mad. I have one friend who insists on writing it despite the fact I correct him every time - he says it's because it's how he says it. THAT DOESN'T MEAN IT'S RIGHT! ::coughs:: Yea, pet peeve of mine, I'm afraid.

i couldn't understand all her run-on sentence and i want her to go away and not have a baby or anything to do with society again
22nd-Nov-2006 06:28 pm (UTC)
Yeah, can't we do society a favour and apply some abortion with extreme prejudice here? (Her AND the baby)
22nd-Nov-2006 06:40 pm (UTC)
Have you submitted this to grammar_nazis?

Translation:

Hello, I was just wondering if anyone knows the answer to this question. Okay, now that the 20th has come and gone, I still haven't had my baby. Everyone thought I was going to give birth on that day (even me), but I didn't. However, my question is: I know the days I had sex are the days I could have gotten pregnant, so does that mean I will have the baby on the days I could have had sex? See, I was living out of town at the time, so I couldn't see my baby's father every day- only Mondays through Wednesdays, and that's it. So does this mean I will have the baby sometime between Monday and Wednesday? Sorry this question is so stupid, but I'm an idiot who shouldn't be trying to use the English language, much less reproducing.
