I have a friend who is relatively ditzy.
The other day I was eating a packet of Wotsits, and they had a joke printed on the back.
It was this joke:

Why was 6 afraid of 7?
Because 789!

My friend read it out to me and the following ensued:-

Her: Why was 6 afraid of 7?
Me: I don't know, why was 6 afraid of 7?
Her: Because seven hundred and eighty-nine! ...Wait I don't get it?
Me: I think you're meant to say "Because seven eight nine."
Her: I still don't get it.
Me: Because seven ATE, as in HAS EATEN, nine.
Her: What's a seven?

At this point I just changed the subject. About 2 hours later she suddenly exclaimed "OH I GET THAT JOKE NOW!"

"OH I GET THAT JOKE NOW!"

Made my sides hurt. My best friend is like this. I have to explain everything to her very slowly. And repeatedly. And it still takes a while to sink in. God Bless her...lol.

We have a friend like that. I tease him that we have to tell him the joke on Monday, then tell everyone else Thursday, then we can all laugh together.

That was my eight-year-old brother's favorite joke for a while...unless your friend is eight, though, that's pretty stupid. :)

A seven, my dear, is a cannibal. You know, those things Toto Coelco eats.

i guess if you've never heard it before, you'd read the three numbers as seven-hundred-eighty-nine, but after having it explained and taking TWO HOURS to get it is just hilarious.

LOL well I'm thinking she put it out of her mind for two hours and then it suddenly came to her!

"What's a seven?"

That's it. Show's over. Nothing to see, folks. We've officially reached Absolute Dumb.

And what is the unit that we use to measure Absolute Dumb? It can't be Kelvin, but I'd sure like to know what it is...for future use. ;)

Somehow I had never heard that joke before.

But yes, I got it :>)

Passed it on to my sister, who has an 11-year-old who'll LOL over it.

I must laugh at 'What's a seven' or I will cry.

And, while I doubt she did actually think it over for the whole time, I have to admit, the mental image of her devoting two hours worth of time to think about it to finally get it is very amusing. I'm picturing this poor little hamster in its wheel and finally the light bulb, a 30 watt, going off over her head, shining it's little heart out. Almost kind of sweet.

She's actually really small and cute so we sometimes refer to her as a mouse!

Wow. If your friend wasn't like 5 years old, I'd have mocked her for not having heard that joke a bajillion years ago, as it's seriously one of the oldest jokes in the universe.

Though, that said, I do recall a story told to me by a friend of mine's dad, about one of his (the dad's) friends from college, who was utterly incapable of telling a joke, even a simple one. He once asked why eight was afraid of nine. :D

Haha... I've had those moments. A few years ago my friend and I spent math class swapping Confucius jokes. She said, "Confucius say: man who stands on toilet is high on pot."

The ridiculousness of it made me giggle hysterically, because I was already laughing, but I only actually got it the next day in math class again. It was like a lightbulb went off.

Ironically, one of mine was "man who laugh last not get joke."

She does have a lot of friends because despite being a bit dumb, she is the NICEST PERSON EVER! So it's always possible ;)

Heh heh heh.

Though I do have to admit that I never understood the Chicago song, "28 or 6-2-4", until my wife found this out and explained -- and not patiently, either -- that it was "25 or -6 to 4:00".
