I have a friend who is relatively ditzy.
The other day I was eating a packet of Wotsits, and they had a joke printed on the back.
It was this joke:
Why was 6 afraid of 7?
Because 789!
My friend read it out to me and the following ensued:-
Her: Why was 6 afraid of 7?
Me: I don't know, why was 6 afraid of 7?
Her: Because seven hundred and eighty-nine! ...Wait I don't get it?
Me: I think you're meant to say "Because seven eight nine."
Her: I still don't get it.
Me: Because seven ATE, as in HAS EATEN, nine.
Her: What's a seven?
At this point I just changed the subject. About 2 hours later she suddenly exclaimed "OH I GET THAT JOKE NOW!"

Made my sides hurt. My best friend is like this. I have to explain everything to her very slowly. And repeatedly. And it still takes a while to sink in. God Bless her...lol.

And, while I doubt she did actually think it over for the whole time, I have to admit, the mental image of her devoting two hours worth of time to think about it to finally get it is very amusing. I'm picturing this poor little hamster in its wheel and finally the light bulb, a 30 watt, going off over her head, shining it's little heart out. Almost kind of sweet.

Though, that said, I do recall a story told to me by a friend of mine's dad, about one of his (the dad's) friends from college, who was utterly incapable of telling a joke, even a simple one. He once asked why eight was afraid of nine. :D

The ridiculousness of it made me giggle hysterically, because I was already laughing, but I only actually got it the next day in math class again. It was like a lightbulb went off.
Ironically, one of mine was "man who laugh last not get joke."

Though I do have to admit that I never understood the Chicago song, "28 or 6-2-4", until my wife found this out and explained -- and not patiently, either -- that it was "25 or -6 to 4:00".
(Do you know what comes between fear and sex? Funf!)
